Tung oil is a superior oil for caring for and protecting unfinished wood.
• 100% natural, ideal for use on food contact items and environmentally friendly.
• Matte-satin finish resistant to heat, water, alcohol, acids and alkalis.
• It does not significantly alter the original color of the wood, and it does not darken over time.
• Nourishes, strengthens, protects against abrasion, wear and tear, and biological attacks (fungi and molds)
• Adds depth to the wood grain, beautifies, and produces an antique-style finish.
• It is a drying oil – it polymerizes by auto-oxidation after exposure to air.
• It functions as an enhancer, hardener, and bio-drying agent for teak or linseed oils.
• A 50:50 mixture with boiled linseed oil results in a glossy-satin finish.
• Waterproofs without impeding the wood’s natural breathing.
• Protects wood from corrosion caused by water; used for centuries as a waterproof finish for boats and other wooden objects, suitable for permanent contact with fresh and seawater.
• The color can be altered with the addition of pigments for Art and Restoration and other dyes.
• Tough and flexible, long-lasting result, suitable for interior and exterior application.
• Perfect for waterproofing stone, concrete and cement
• Cures faster in warm environments.
Pure tung oil is thick, with a high solids content, dark amber-yellow in color, and has a characteristic mild odor; it can be applied pure or diluted, but for better penetration, apply diluted. Depending on the density of the wood, we suggest diluting to 70%, 50%, or 30%. E.g., 50% = 500g of oil + 500g (625mL) of white spirit or non-toxic solvents such as turpentine and limonene.
Caution when applying: direct sunlight may cause spontaneous polymerization and a “frost” effect.
Tung oil is an excellent waterproofing agent for paper, fabric (oil-cloth), plaster and stone.
It is a bio-substitute for polyurethanes and other potentially hazardous sealants/varnishes.
Easy application and maintenance for all interior and exterior projects.
Coverage (diluted): 1L = 15m². 2 to 6 coats. Polymerization = 4 days. Curing = 15 days.
